How to Renew or Replace a Lost Malawian Passport

You can renew an expired passport or replace a lost one at any Immigration Office in Blantyre, Lilongwe or Mzuzu.2 The process requires different documents depending on whether you are renewing or replacing a lost passport.

What you need to renew an expired passport

To renew your passport, you need to bring a completed passport form, two passport-size photographs, and your previous passport.1 Passport application forms are available free of charge from any Immigration office or can be downloaded from the Immigration website.12 Do not photocopy the form, as it has a unique barcode number that is specific to you.2

What you need to replace a lost passport

If your passport is lost, you will need a completed passport form, one passport-size photograph, a Police Report, and a Report of Lost form.1

Submitting your application

When you submit your application, bring all original documents to show at the time of submission.13 With your original application form, attach self-attested copies of all required documents.13 If you have lived at more than one address in the last year, provide two additional photocopies of the application form for each additional address.13 If you are unable to read or write, you may put only your thumb impression in the space provided for your signature.13

Where to apply

You can collect application forms and submit your application at Immigration Offices in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, or any other Immigration Office.212 If you live outside Malawi, you can obtain forms from the nearest Malawi foreign mission.12
