How to Get Your Product Certified by the Malawi Bureau of Standards

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) certifies products that meet established standards for quality, safety, and performance.1 To get your product certified, you need to meet specific requirements, go through an inspection and audit process, and obtain approval before you can use the MBS Quality Mark.2

MBS Quality Marks

Once certified, you can use the appropriate MBS Quality Mark for your product type.2 The specific marks depend on your product category, including MS 21 for food products and MS 19 for other product standards.2

Getting support

If you are a small or medium enterprise (SMSE), you can take advantage of the MBS-SMEDI memorandum of understanding arrangement and other government efforts towards capacity building.2 You can also contact the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), which provides technical support including guidance on standards compliance and certification requirements.8
