Where to Find Official Malawi Election Results

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) publishes official election results through its Election Dashboard, where you can explore results for presidential, parliamentary and local government elections across all regions and districts of Malawi.⁴

Where to access results

The Election Dashboard allows you to view results by browsing different levels of government:⁴

• Presidential results showing all presidential candidates, national vote totals and detailed performance across Malawi⁴
• Parliamentary results organised by Region, District and Constituency⁴
• Local Government results organised by Region, District, Constituency and Ward⁴

What’s available

The MEC provides official result summaries by election and administrative area that you can find, preview and download.⁴ The Electoral Commission structures results across 3 administrative regions, 36 districts and councils, 229 parliamentary constituencies, and 509 wards for local election areas.⁴

Understanding the results

The MEC oversees all electoral processes from voter registration through to the declaration of results, and provides critical information regarding boundary demarcation, voter registration processes, polling locations and election results to foster transparency.⁶ Official results are compiled from polling station and tally centre result forms submitted from Constituency and District Tally Centres to the National Tally Centre, both in hard copy and electronic form.⁷

Preservation of polling records

After announcing official results, the MEC preserves all supporting documentation including ballot papers, polling station records, complaints logbooks and result forms.⁸ These records are kept available for reference, including for any ongoing election petitions before the High Court.⁸
